API 600 — Bolted Bonnet Steel Gate Valves for Petroleum and Natural Gas Industries
The specification that refinery and pipeline piping classes call out when they write "API 600 gate valve". It defines the bolted-bonnet, outside-screw-and-yoke steel gate valve: full-bore, rising stem, backseat, and a seat and wedge geometry that survives thermal cycling.
API 600 covers flanged and butt-weld end steel gate valves in NPS 1 to NPS 42 (DN25 to DN1050) and ASME Class 150 to 2500. The valve is outside-screw-and-yoke by definition, which is what makes the packing serviceable and the stem position readable on a line that must be proved open or closed.
The standard is prescriptive where it matters: minimum wall thickness by class and size, seat ring retention, backseat sealing, stem material minimum properties, wedge configuration, and the yoke sleeve and thrust arrangement. It also sets the extent of testing to API 598 and the marking system that ties the valve to the monogram licence.
Our licence 600-0432 covers bolted bonnet steel gate valves under this standard together with API Spec Q1. WCB, WCC, CF8M, WC6, WC9, duplex and super duplex bodies are all within the licence scope; the monogram is applied only to the licensed product form.
