API 6D — Pipeline and Piping Valves

The standard behind every pipeline block valve. API 6D is not a valve design standard in the way API 600 is — it is a specification for the valves that isolate a pipeline, and it cares about double block and bleed, cavity relief, seat testing and monogrammed traceability.

API 6D covers ball, check and gate valves for pipeline and piping systems in ASME Class 150 to 2500. Its defining features are the requirements that make a valve provable in service: double block and bleed function, cavity pressure relief for trunnion ball valves, seat and seal testing pressures, the requirement for a documented operator torque, and full monogram traceability back to a licensed manufacturer.

The 25th edition removed Class 400 from the range and tightened the documentation and audit requirements, which is why the monogram licence is now the practical gate to supplying pipeline valves anywhere in the world.

Our licence 6D-2150 covers ball valves, check valves and gate valves. Trunnion-mounted fully welded body ball valves, floating ball valves, swing and dual plate check valves, and API 600 gate valves all carry the 6D monogram where the purchase order specifies it.
